The “Spring Cleaning” of the Mind Finding Hózhó as the Seasons Shift
In Minnesota, the shift into spring is more than just a change in the weather; it’s a profound transition in
energy. As the snow finally retreats and the first hints of green emerge, there is a collective exhale. Yet, for
many, this transition isn’t an overnight burst of joy. After months of gray skies, the “winter sluggishness”
often lingers, a mental fog that doesn’t always clear just because the sun is finally out.
In the Navajo tradition, there is a concept called Hózhó. It describes a state of being in harmony with the
world around you, a balance of beauty, health, and peace. When we move from the dormancy of winter
into the activity of spring, our internal Hózhó is often out of sync.
Why the Seasonal Shift Can Feel Heavy
If you’re feeling more tired than inspired lately,
there’s a clinical reason for it. Our bodies have
spent months adjusting to low light and cold
temperatures. As the days lengthen, our circadian
rhythms must recalibrate. This shift can disrupt
sleep, fluctuate serotonin levels, and leave you
feeling “stuck” even when you feel like you should
be “moving.”

This is where the idea of “Spring Cleaning” for the mind comes in. Just as we clear out the dust and clutter
of winter from our homes, we must address the mental and emotional buildup that accumulated during the
darker months.
A Higher Standard of Care | The Concierge Difference
Navigating these transitions, whether it’s lingering seasonal depression, burnout, or a general sense of
being overwhelmed, requires more than a 15-minute check-in and a prescription. This is exactly why I
established Hózhó Psychiatry & Wellness as Minnesota’s first and only concierge psychiatry practice.
In a traditional medical model, mental health is often managed in hurried appointments that barely scratch
the surface. As a concierge psychiatrist, I work differently. By maintaining an intentionally small patient
panel, I provide the one thing traditional clinics can’t: time.
When we work together, we aren’t just managing symptoms; we are restoring your whole life. We explore
how your environment, your biology, and your personal history intersect. Whether we are discussing
medication management, integrative lifestyle changes, or simply providing a space where you are truly
heard, the goal is always the same: restoring your personal sense of Hózhó.

Practical Steps to Restore Your Balance
If you are struggling to find your footing as the seasons change, here are a few ways to begin your mental
spring cleaning:
Honor the Recalibration: Don’t force yourself into high gear immediately. Allow your body to adjust to
the new light by stepping outside for just 10 minutes each morning.
Audit Your “Mental Clutter”: Identify one habit or thought pattern you adopted over the winter to cope
with the isolation. If it no longer serves you, permit yourself to let it go.
Invest in Bespoke Support: If you feel like your current care isn’t reaching the deeper roots of your
struggles, you deserve a partner in your wellness who is accessible, unhurried, and dedicated to your
specific journey.
Spring is a season of renewal, but renewal doesn’t have to be rushed. If you are ready to move toward a
more balanced, harmonious version of yourself, I am here to help you navigate that journey with the
dedicated, concierge-level care you deserve.
