About
Hózhó Psychiatry & Wellness
Hello! I am Dr. Melvina Bissonette, I work as an Integrative Psychiatrist specializing in treating high achieving women professionals struggling with mental health challenges related to peri/menopause, peri/post-partum, trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic stress related to life and work etc. I have a BS in Psychology and received my MD from the University of MN in 2012 and completed a residency in Psychiatry. I spent the last 8 years working in the rural and federal hospital system, working primarily with patients who are struggling with symptoms of trauma. I found it challenging to treat patients from within the insurance system in an integrative way and faced barriers that limited being able to offer holistic mental health care. Working outside the insurance system, I have the freedom to focus on what the patient truly needs and incorporate psychiatric methods as well as therapy and mind/body wellness strategies.
My own journey with mental health and wellness has led me to a deeper understanding of the importance of the mind/body connection, integrating medication and therapeutic intervention, and the power of cultivating a supportive community. Growing up on a reservation, navigating the pressure and demands of my professional life, and the struggle to balance family life and motherhood lead me to understand the importance of self-care and setting boundaries to cultivating health and happiness in life. I realized that many high achieving women and mothers often do not seek out mental health care due to the worries they feel it may have on their career or how others’ may perceive them and tend to struggle alone instead of finding the right approach to care that can meet their needs for direct access, community, and someone who gets it.
I founded Hózhó Psychiatry & Wellness specifically to offer high achieving women and mothers the integrative, direct access to mental health care they need to navigate the challenges in their complex, professional, and personal lives, finding beauty in their lives again.
